Grouped Projects For Vietnam Energy Efficiency Program

This Grouped project is to reduce fossil-fuel based electricity consumption in households of The Socialist Republic of Vietnam (hereafter called “Vietnam”) by introducing more energy efficient LED lamps to replace incandescent lightbulbs (“ICLs”), which would result in reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The ordinary incandescent bulb is extremely energy inefficient for lighting when compared to LED. Only 10% of the energy used by an incandescent bulb is converted to light; the other 90% is lost as heat while LEDs use 90% less power than incandescent lights, are ecologically friendly, have zero UV emissions or mercury, and are very durable. Despite being inefficient, ICLs are the most preferred option because of its cheaper cost for replacing the broken ones that is about four times lower than LED lightbulbs. The replacement of ICLs with energy efficient LED bulbs will reduce energy consumption, thus resulting in less GHG emissions. The grouped project will distribute freely 6,000,000 LEDs to households who are using incandescent lightbulbs for lighting. All the project instances to be included in this grouped project will be from within Vietnam only. The estimates of annual average GHG emission reductions of the grouped project activity is 598,293 tCO2e/annum.
