Reducing Gas Leakages within the Titas Gas Distribution Network in Bangladesh - CER Conversion

The proposed CDM project aims to reduce gas leakages from components in the natural gas distribution system in Greater Dhaka and its adjacent areas in the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, a Least Developed Country. The length of the natural gas distribution system operated by Titas is 12,253.22 km. Construction began on the distribution system in the mid-1960s and over the years the system has not been adequately maintained. As a result, a significant percentage of the natural gas throughput (predominately methane (CH4)) leaks from components in the system and is released into the atmosphere contributing to global warming. The project will lead to reductions of methane, a potent greenhouse gas (GHG).
